A man approached my husband, who has sleeves on both arms, and asked what he was going to do about his tattoos when he's 45?..... this is the first time I've heard someone ask such an ignorant, absent minded question.

My husband handle it very well and explained that we own our home, own his business, have investments, savings accounts, a SEP and an IRA and at 45 he will probably be semi-retired enjoying his days at the lake and getting more tattoos. The man replied by by shuting up and slithering away, but I was wondering how most of you would handle this type of situation.

That is funny, what an odd age to pick for the stupid question of the day. That's actually one of the most common questions that I get asked....won't that look like shit when you're 80? Well, my wrinkly skin will be more colorful and fun than your wrinkly skin that shows the liver spots. See, my liver spots will be hidden under my tattoos! And, I don't give a shit if the 20-year-old nurse wiping my butt in the nursing home sees my tattoos. I imagine by that time it will be even more widely accepted than it is now, so I figure I'll be the coolest old lady in the home!

One of my coworkers [who hasn't mentioned my sleeve in the five months I've been here] asked me yesterday about how it's going to look when I'm 60. I told him, "I'll let you know ... next year."

Well, I imagine, I'll get em retouched.

But I'm 43, and I just started getting mine...

People ask that a lot and my stuff isn't that visual by public, so I usually go the, "I'm already fat and wrinkly" route., not much is going to change. Don't get me wrong I have no desire to be skinny, trim and fit, I enjoy being a "bigger" gal.

My Aunt who is almost 70 now, we have the same build and features, her tattoos still look great, she gets the color touched up every decade or so. She says its the sun, and how people don't do any up keep that makes them turn to crap.

Funny, my mom and dad came down for a visit last weekend and asked me that very question, well the age she stated was 80 but....

My reply was if i can still turn around and see it in the mirror at 80 GOD blessed me!! with that she smiled and dropped the subject.

I know wat that feels like im still in senior high so 1 of my teachers saw my back piece and started asking tons of questions of course 1 of the questions was what are you going to do when your 70? I answered the same as you getting old you cant do a thing about it so who cares if you have a tattoo or not the skin is still going to get all wrinkled up.

I was walking in on a beach in east Germany '95 when an older man walked up to me poking my griffin tattoo on my chest and yelling at me (in German of course).

As I didn't/don't speak German it took a while to figure out that he was telling me that I would regret the tattoo when I was old. I attempted (and failed) to explain that as my last name is Griffin it is unlikely I'll regret having a griffin tattoo.

I always loved my grandfathers old WWII sailor tattoo's he had on his arms. As a child the blotchy green anchors, flags, and stars fascinated me. My grandfather was very proud of them - even though they had faded and gotten rather messy over the years.

I figure when I'm old I'll look like sh!t, but I'll still have a huge and recognizable koi on my back. I like to fantisize that it will give me a reputation as a hard @ss at the nursing home...

funny, I was just in Idaho visiting my dad and step fam and my step mom saw me sitting on the stairs, shorts, short sleeves, everything showing, and asked "you know those are permanent right?" i quipped back, "yeah, that's the point...." in return, "well what are you going to do when your 70 and wrinkly?" i replied "well juli, if i even make it to 70, i'll have something to keep my demented ass amused in the home won't i?" i got a head shake and she walked away....

Yeah the scene-y toile reminds me a bit of my nonna's bedspread or something haha Will definitely chat with my artist about some shadows and see what she can come up with :) The pain isn't something I'm relishing, but it'll just be three hours out…
