Similar to the "tattoo ignorance" thread, but on a lighter note: what are the things people have said about your tattoos that made you laugh, or wonder if they were a) serious, b) aliens from a distant planet or c) just plain stupid?

I get the "is that real?" question a lot. Occasionally I have to rub my arm so that people believe it's really real. I'd say that's your run of the mill a).

But what was between b) and c) was this: "I didn't know tattoos could be done in color!" from a girl younger than me. WTF? Where have you been in the last decade?

A clear c): "That one didn't come from [name of German youth magazine], did it?". I guess he was trying to be clever. I said "Actually, I draw this on every day." :D

Most times though, I am surprisingly patient with people asking me these questions, touching my arm with or without asking, or, as it happened to me while I was passing a butcher shop in Old Town Nice (France) just recently, literally getting dragged inside the shop and shown around to coworkers and customers. That was actually pretty funny :D.

Not to be too crude, but my buddies like to tell me my dagger "looks like a c*ck" whenever we're out for beers.
Then I make it pulsate for them. ;^)

I've just recently been for a short trip over to Bali - and the locals there are far from shy in coming forward to check out your tattoos. Most like to get up close for a really good look and everyone seems to have a very happy disposition toward any visible ink. Their whole attitude is quite different from our Western way of looking at things, so I have to say that despite being prodded and touched quite regularly over there, there wasn't one ounce of negativity, just genuine curiosity and admiration for the art.

You reminded me that I once had that b)-c) comment too, about tattoos in color (well, she said something to the effect of not realizing tattoos could be done in such VIVID colors, and she was impressed, which I guess was a good thing. WTF! (^_-)

Oh, I get that one a lot too. My artist is known for her bold use of colors. I had one guy approach me once and ask "who did your sleeve? Nico? (which was spot on)". But when you look around on the street, many color tattoos do look quite drab. But having seen none at all? WTF! :D

I got my colored tattoo on the foot and people keep asking me if it was a real one... and so I say yes, they say: you gotta be kiding me; if it would be a real one, it wouldn't be in color!!! WTF! So they approach themself to get a closer view to finally realize that it's a true tattoo, so after they can judge myself and say well: you know girl, you better like it coz it's permanent and it's for life!!! D'Oh!

As it's happening often... sometimes i just think about kicking them on the face when they approch themself to look at my foot!

I recently ran into an old high school friend who saw my tattoo. She replied saying that it looked like a Guns and Roses album cover. That was the first funny comment I have ever had towards my tattoo since I got it over a year ago. Here is a photo of what it looks like.

I was in line at a fast food joint to get a soda, and an extremely obese woman looked at my tattoo and whispered to her friend, "omg, why would anyone do that to themselves" - and since I happened to be in a "mood" that day, I turned around and said, "how could anybody let themselves get that fucking fat?!" ...

..

Probably not the best way to handle that situation, but I think she got the point.

YES!!!! perfect....I have been in the same situation.....I love it. Some people have it all wrong , and that's a sad thing. But good for you to say something right back to them.

That made me laugh. I wish I had the guts (or quick wit) to say things like that sometimes!

It shouldn't matter, plain and simple. Any confident, secure guy worth going out with isn't going to be scared off by a little ink. Or a lot of it even.
