Similar to the "tattoo ignorance" thread, but on a lighter note: what are the things people have said about your tattoos that made you laugh, or wonder if they were a) serious, b) aliens from a distant planet or c) just plain stupid?

I get the "is that real?" question a lot. Occasionally I have to rub my arm so that people believe it's really real. I'd say that's your run of the mill a).

But what was between b) and c) was this: "I didn't know tattoos could be done in color!" from a girl younger than me. WTF? Where have you been in the last decade?

A clear c): "That one didn't come from [name of German youth magazine], did it?". I guess he was trying to be clever. I said "Actually, I draw this on every day." :D

Most times though, I am surprisingly patient with people asking me these questions, touching my arm with or without asking, or, as it happened to me while I was passing a butcher shop in Old Town Nice (France) just recently, literally getting dragged inside the shop and shown around to coworkers and customers. That was actually pretty funny :D.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found that at least one or two of the sessions felt strangely good. Not kinky good, just sort of "scratching an itch/stretching/knuckle cracking/hurting good".

For me it was my middle lower back right on the spine. Both the outline and the shading for some reason felt good there.

Some other sessions though - I wanted to die. Especially the first one. I think the first line he drew on me went from the upper left of my back all the way down the lower left and my first thought was "holy sh!t, what the f!ck am I doing, there is no way I can handle this kind of pain". No session afterwards was half as bad as that first outline session.
My dad told me what the fuck did you do to yourself. I said its only a ghost. Oh and a snake.

When I saw comments about people licking it and trying to rub it off I thought man there are some weird people in the US.
But when I went out on a pub crawl recently I was shocked! People used their saliva to rub it off and lick it. It was crazy... and very freaky.
Looks like there are loons around the world

Walking into Kroger tonight, a young woman looked at me from about ten feet away and yelled so everyone could hear, "Oh my God, he got a tattoo on his knee. Ouch!"

I smiled, walked on, and thought of this discussion.

What me made WTF? When I came into a swimmingpool with my kids and a elderly woman asked me if I wasn`t to old to have tattoos......

WTF, everyone makes his one choice to get inked, every gender, every age (from 18 up, =D ), I came to this world plain naked and all pink, but I want to go colorfull if you don`t mind.....

I get a lot of people asking me if my solar eclipse is an exploding marble, or a Batman "BIFF!" sign. Let me go on record as saying it's neither.

I also have an anchor tattoo, but it's a true-to-life anchor (shaped more like a garden-hoe than a smiley face), and I had a guy ask me why I had a spear being thrust into a vagina. Upon review, the haft does kind of meet the bottom in a funny way.

Tons of people ask me about my binary wristband, though. That and the D&D dice. Talk about a good way to find your ilk.

The most hilarious tattoo-related experience to ever occur to me is as follows:

I work in a fabric store, so I get all sorts of old women, and religious types, in all the time. One day there was a perfectly normal-looking woman in the store, who I asked if she needed help. She looked me over for a moment, and saw that I had a tattoo on my wrist. Well, I ended up helping her out with everything, all the while her eyes were glued to my lunar eclipse. After I had finished ringing up everything she wanted to buy, she pulled out a [insert extremist Christian denomination here] pamphlet, and patted me on the wrist, saying 'Maybe this will help you out, honey,' and left.

/sigh.

I just remembered one from years and years ago.

I had gone to my tattoo parlor to work on my back piece. The artist was finishing up with someone so I was relaxing in the entry area, flipping through a magazine. As I had just come from work I was still wearing professional office attire.

Two young "emo" college girls were in there with me and were flipping through the artists portfolio. They came upon a picture of me, showing my entire back tattoo in progress (naked @ss and all). They, of course, giggled and then went on a hilarious rant about how "clearly this guy was clenching his butt cheeks and pumping his fists" to try to look macho. They even showed me the picture to ask what I thought, thinking they were going to "weird out the square guy in a suit". I smiled and and said, "wow, what a poser".

At about this time my artist, who of course had overheard the whole thing (it's a one room studio) asked me to take my shirt off so he could see how things had healed last time. The girls turned a fun color of bright red and left quickly after that.

Do you have any tattoos? I plan on being a criminal defense attorney. How do you think a tattoo will affect my hiring process?
