Are you a tattoo snob?

I think I may be one. I mean if a person has a small tattoo that really means something special to them, ok. I understand that. But if it's a tribal band and I ask them why and their reply is, "It was pretty cool at the time" or "Man, I was so drunk" I don't want to say I would look down at the tattoo but I wouldn't give that ink as much as respect as a person who really decided/planned/designed/etc. their tattoos. What are your thoughts.

This has been discused before but i couldn t find it anywhere, maybe the person who started it has left and it went with them when they deleted their profile.
I just love tattoo's full stop, as individuals we choose our own designs and have personal reasons for getting them. I don't question why someone has a tattoo, but i love to hear why people have choosen their tattoo and if it has a particular meaning.

I generally don't judge an individuals tattoos as everyone has their reasons. But with that said, I think the individuals who did it to follow the crowd i.e. "It was pretty cool at the time" or did not think out the process "I was drunk" kind of supports most "uninked" people's mentality about individuals with ink. I have to agree with Bun that I don't have the same respect for those individuals. Unfortunately people don't separate us into groups....those that are geniune collectors and those that are not. We are grouped together and usually its the unintentional pieces that stick out in most people's mind.

It makes me sad to see people walking around with bad quality tattoos. With all the talent out there these days it is a crime to get tattooed by some hack. People want to save money, get tattooed by a friend at their house, it is horrible! Even bad quality tattoos with a nice meaning is still sad. Why people would do this to themselves is beyond me.

I feel the same way. I'm not an art snob...all art is good art, if you're creating or being witness to creativity that's a wonderful thing.

However, I don't understand why people would put poorly done "art" on their bodies permanently when there is such talent out there. So I would call myself a tattoo "connoisseur" (I think this is how someone on the previous thread thought of it and I just love that). I don't think people should settle for poor quality tattoos, regardless of the meaning, when there are such amazing artists out there.

Adding to this topic.I went to a show the other night to see "the Supersuckers".My friend and I are very covered in ink.He has a full suit but it was a cool night and none of it showed.He made a comment..."everyone is tattooed here!!!!".It was true.I felt that anyone who wasn't tattooed was feeling rather less than or left out, and probably got their phone in hand trying to get a session booked as we speak.Ink is becoming very main-stream here in Sydney....so there is no-way I could be a snob,maybe a fashion victim more like it.haha.
