Part of the reason why I came across this site, is because I was searching for Law Oriented Tattoos. I work in business and law, I'm in law school, I mostly enjoy law oriented history or types of events/books/conversations and plenty parts of the U.S. government and our constitution get me excited. I am thinking of getting a law oriented piece, to mark my journey through law school and my profession and career path thus far. Right now my first choice is incorporating the words Voir Dire into the piece. (It is latin for "to tell the truth".) It is simple, I realize, but there is something said for telling the truth, and it is a motto I carry always with myself.

My questions are: Do you have any law oriented tattoos?
And if so what?
If you do not have a law tattoo, would you ever get one? If so of what?

Do you have a career/ profession oriented tattoo?

Thoughts and/or opinions on getting your career/profession tattooed on to you?

Yes, it seems rare to find someone with a white collar professional position tattoo resembling their career, unless it's something really creative.

That's ok, just gaining people's opinions and ideas.

My next tattoo will be related to my job...but my career is in an art/ psychology related field. And the media of tattoo just seems to suit itself to the way I view the art process within clinical settings...so it makes sense for me to get it. I've seen plenty of people who get job related tattoos.

See you have it kind of easy, you work in a creative art field. My pathological passion is not very creative, with very little art involved.

Well, I'm not technically employed in my future job of choice, but I am planning on being a librarian and a writer, and my next tattoo (which I'm getting in 3 days!!!) will be of a woman reading a book, which is both a tribute to my future plans, and the deep love of reading I've always had.

I think that, like any other major life changing event, getting a tattoo associated with your career is a wonderful idea. Your career is a part of you, and particularly if you're doing something you love, it's what makes you you. Your tattoos are also a part of what makes you the unique individual you are, so the two themes seem to make a natural connection for me.

I agree, your career is a big part of who you are. But also a lot of people, their career is a just a job, a means to an end.

I was thinking of a pin-up lady of justice type of thing, but it seems kind of cheesy to me.

Im a Creative Director (artist) so it's like putting art on an artist, so for me it's not a huge leap. (lol)

Yeah, there are some really cool ways you could take this really. I have a legal secretary diploma, hated the legal field and probably will never get any work-related tattoos unless my sole income someday comes from cakes or crafts, in which case I may get a cake-oriented tattoo some day.

BUT, there's always lady liberty, the scales to symbolize balance within the justice system (haha, yeah right......I don't believe our system exactly balanced, but that's the concept, so the symbolism is there of course) Are there any specific cases that you are drawn to? Roe v Wade, Brown v Board, etc...... with the right artist, you could maybe describe the details of the case, why you're attracted to it and see what they could come up with. Definitely a custom piece :) Good luck!

I decided to go with something simple and that I know I would like for two reasons.
1) I was testing out a new artist, just seeing if if he had a heavy hand, how quick and steady he was. He was great btw.
2) I just finished out my last exams of the semester and have had the itch for a new tattoo for the last couple of weeks.

So I ended up getting Voir Dire written across my back thighs in script. I posted a pic in my profile pics.

I like it! Excuse my complete and utter ignorance - what does that mean?

Yeah the scene-y toile reminds me a bit of my nonna's bedspread or something haha Will definitely chat with my artist about some shadows and see what she can come up with :) The pain isn't something I'm relishing, but it'll just be three hours out…
