Hey, anyone here have tattooed knees? I know a lot of you guys w/ full body suits do....but I'm just realizing that I have this big chunk-o-nuthin on my left knee, as I have a large calf piece and then my thigh is mostly done. My knee looks bare and barren and lonely. Tryin to come up with something colorful and creative to fill the void.

How does the knee compare to other, more meaty parts? I can practically feel the tattoo machine bouncing off of my poor little knee cap.....and how does that work with the whole automatic reflex deal?

I heard it was pretty bad. We are thinking of capping off my thigh piece with an Ezekiel flower on the knee (a dark maroon daylily with yellow center). Russ said we may try to do that (and only that) all in one session because I probably wouldn't be able to handle anything else after it. (EEK!)

To me it was worse on the sides and bottom. Not so bad on the ball. I always tell clients to worry about how it looks not how it hurts. You'll soon forget the pain and only the pretty picture will remain. I for one was really happy when I got my knee tattooed because, like Jess, I had an empty space that was begging to be filled.

Oh I certainly won't let a little (or even a lot) of pain keep me from tattooing my knee....the void MUST be filled! It'll just be one of those sessions that I really have to prepare for mentally. That's all :) But I have a half sleeve to finish first!

I have been wondering about the knee as well. My legs are pretty full aside form the knee, so it will happen soon!

the other thing to consider, my ortho doc keeps telling me i'll need my knees replaced some time (mother nature fucked my legs) just put it off as long as possible.....so that keeps me from even considering my knees

im an orthopedic tech...basically you'll have a 6-8 inch scar down the center of your knee, and the staples leave scars like a rail road...you should wait till after the surgery and then use the scar to do womething cool. and good luck. make sure you have a GREAT (not good, GREAT) surgeon...knee replacements are very easily fucked up.

I just finished capping off my lower leg piece with waves that come up around my knee and look like they're breaking on my knee cap. I've got a lot of hours in the chair and this had to be about the worst. BUT...it came out looking great and was totally worth it.

I've got both knees done (along with the rest of both legs). The kneecap didn't feel great, but not as bad as some areas on the back (esp. the spine) or the back of the knee. I found it comparatively tolerable. Just keep in mind, the kneecap isn't huge so however bad it is, it'll be over and done with relatively quickly. Good luck!

Well, it hurts, but so have all my other sessions.

The worst pain was across the ligaments on the bottom and side. The large liner was the worst, but the small liner and small shader were pretty bad.

Russ did pull out a secret weapon to do some of the major shading: a 25 mag shader (at least I think that is what he called it). The machine looked like it was meant to peel the skin right off the bone (with rows of multiple needles), but it was the least painful sensation I have had yet and it covers very quickly.

Actually, I lied. The worst part was at the end of my 2 hour 45 minute session (the last 30 minutes or so) when he asked me to bend the knee so he could sink in the color deep. He kept finding little gaps to fill in with the knee bent. It was painful, but I am grateful that it will mean less touching up in the future.

The pain, as always, was worth it.

Oh, and as far as the automatic reflex -- that was not an issue.
My quad gat a little twitchy at the beginning, but it always does that.
