Do image for tattoo has to be realistic or artistic?

I have Daffodil flowers for my tattoo. As far as i know, Daffodils are bright yellow or white color.
Can i make it another color since yellow doesn't quite pop-up on my skin?

This type of question came up in my last session with a painted bunting. The female painted bunting used for reference was a mucky, but pretty green and yellow. Since the leaves in the background were green, my artist suggested another color that would stand out more. He was afraid that using the realistic colors would conceal the bird (probably the point in real life, lol). He chose a nice purple and gold instead and it works great.

Bottom line ... trust your artist and go with what is most beautiful to you.

My observation is that art is the interpretation of reality

Yeah the scene-y toile reminds me a bit of my nonna's bedspread or something haha Will definitely chat with my artist about some shadows and see what she can come up with :) The pain isn't something I'm relishing, but it'll just be three hours out…
