i've seen some of his work. It's pretty good but if you're in los angeles and want japanese tattoo you might want to check out jiro yaguchi or jakko at onizuka tattoo in little tokyo. they both were born and trained in japan. jiro did the tiger on my leg and is currently working on my back piece.

Thanks; I've checked our Jiro previously -- both he and jakko are incredible artists (I'm going to enjoy watching your back piece unfold). That said, I'm still more interested in learning more about Horiyen.

All I know is that he has over 2 years of waiting list. and if I remember correctly, he charges $1000 per session to outline and i think it was $800 per session for shading. I might be a little off though. He has a studio in Alhambra. You should call the studio or drop by.

depending on how long the session is that is not a bad deal.

Agreed; by the way do you know from personal experience with Horiyen (or perhaps you looked into getting tattooed by him but were discouraged by the long wait?)?

i do not know from personal experience. although i love his work, i don't think his style is exactly what i want for my tattoos. my hubby is planning on getting tattooed by him at an upcoming convention though.

also, i get tattooed by some artists that have a very long wait, but it is never discouraging. if you like the artists work it is never a problem to wait. plus it always gives me extra time to save up the money!

I meant whether Josh had any personal experience. I'm not discouraged by the wait and agree that waits are worthwhile if you really want it. I waited 5 months to start up my current 1/2 sleeve and got in one session, then had to wait 6 more months for the second and third sessions (in about a month from now).

No, I don't have personal experience with him, unfortunately. I wanted to get some work done by him, but I was discouraged by the waiting list. That was when I was younger so I didn't know better =[. If it was now, then I would've waited for sure. If you really love his style, I say go for it. The wait list might have grown even longer. And it will well be worth it.

On the other hand, I've been dying to set up an appointment with him. I'd be down to wait 3+ years, but It seems that he's impossible to book =[

I don't know anyone who has been tattooed by him, but he's at the top of my list of artists to be tattooed by. The wait is to be expected with someone as good as him.

Yeah the scene-y toile reminds me a bit of my nonna's bedspread or something haha Will definitely chat with my artist about some shadows and see what she can come up with :) The pain isn't something I'm relishing, but it'll just be three hours out…
