I noticed a few people here sit for lengthy times and was curious what's the typical time different people sit for. When I make my appointments we take a 4 hour block, and I usually am under the needle for 3 of that.
So how many hours do you sit for? Any marathoners here?.... lol :D

the artist is quite a trip for me to see, so we try to fit a couple sessions into one trip. i would not recommend it at all, but it worked for me (although i would never do it again!). it was my chestpiece, so one day was focused on the left side, the other day on the right.

Well that explains it! I travel an hour and fifteen minutes each way to see my guy so we schedule for the 3 hours each time. Not really too far, but with my kids it's a chore to get the schedule down.
It's hard when they are far (and I gather your person is further) so it's understandable to try and do as much as you can when you can.......

quite a bit farther! a 6 hour drive each way for that particular artist! for the closer artists i go to (around 2 hours away) we average about 5-7 hours each session.
I normally would sit for 3-4 hours without a problem. However my my training schedule allows for tattoos only when I get injured; meaning I only have a short time to get in a lot of tattoo work. Now I sit for 5-6 hours, every two weeks, currently working on two pieces-alternating work on one a week.
My record is a nine-hour forearm/bicep piece by Damon Rowanchilde in Toronto!

Luckily, I only have to schedule around my kids and my husband, but that isn't too bad most of the time :) The only other thing that takes time is during the winter my tattoo guy, goes to Hawaii for some sun so it is on and off for a couple of months, but things will get back on schedule after April.

The longest I've sat is about 3.5 hours, I was buzzed on some serious endorphins by that time so I didn't really care. The only session that really bothered me was the second one, my first "color session". I was really swollen and sore. I don't know if it was because it was my immune systems first exposure to color ink, in the color sessions I've had since then I haven't been anywhere near as bad.
I try to schedule my sessions so I can have off 3 or 4 days afterward. I hate being all lymphy at work.

It's funny that some people think the color is the easy part while the outline is hard. I find it exactly the opposite. The filling in just takes it's toll on me while the outline was a breeze by comparison.....
I'm lucky that I"m at home, so I just have to be careful of the kids accidentally grabbing where I just got tattooed :)
