I noticed a few people here sit for lengthy times and was curious what's the typical time different people sit for. When I make my appointments we take a 4 hour block, and I usually am under the needle for 3 of that.
So how many hours do you sit for? Any marathoners here?.... lol :D
I've been in one session for 5 hours to complete a piece, but with my half sleeve I've been doing 2 hour sessions, with one that hit 3.5 hours, and one for just 1 hour. I could take more on a few of them, but some sessions like my outter upper shoulder I was really happy when the session was over.
I've only done one session, so nothing is typical for me. My actual needle time was 6 hours straight with two 5 minute breaks. That was because my artist was only in town for one day--I wished we could've gone longer, but she had to get going. She says we can knock it out in three more sessions in a 3 week period of time when she returns in December (not sure how long each session will be, but my guess is 3 hours each).
I'm no marathoner but I'd say my average is 2 1/2 hours, generally that is all my artist has time for in a given session. My longest run was most likely 5 hours, but that was just from my shoulder to about three inches above my elbow, so not like an impressive area. If I my body was made of just heels, knees, and elbows my sessions would probably be going for about 40 minutes and then I'd be begging to stop. :P hahaha
my artist comes from belgium so my sessions are for as long as it takes to finish the piece completely that usually comes to 4 to 5 hour sessions. I dont mind because its the only thing I know and its done.
My time starts when the pain starts so I usually get tattooed around 2 to 3 hours under the needle. My artist doesnt like to tattoo a for a long time he says the skin gets irritated when you go for more than a couple hours. I dont argue less pain for me. Plus im a little skinny guy so all my peices get done fast.
With my calf, we did a full 5 hours under the needle to get the outline done in one sitting. The next two sessions were only 2.5 hours, but this past Sunday we did another 5 hours of needle time just because my artist was really into it and it was a Sunday afternoon so I didn't have anywhere to be. We took two 10 minute breaks. I'm still hurting from that one...
Longest- 5 1/2 hours
3 hours is normal (for me). Depends on what/where is being tattooed. I had some cover up work on my back that I wish was over in 5 minutes. But I could sit all day for work on my arms. Haven't gone near the ribs yet. It also depends on how heavy handed your artist is.
I used to do 4-6 hour sessions, but my last 2 were each 10 hours needle time straight (bout 12 hrs with pee breaks, food, and a little drawing on the first one) but I don't think that is typical, it really depends on you and also on the location of the work and the nerve involvement, I was fine with 10 hours on the arm but the armpit 30 mins was tough.
