Looking for a very talented artist in San Diego, preferably one that I don't have to wait months on for my appointment. Fip Buchannan is quite talented, but again, I don't want to be waiting 3 months to see him. Are there any other artists down here that anyone has work by, or knows someone who has work by them? I'm trying to get some progress made on my left arm sleeve, it has been dormant for WAY too long now and I would really like to see it finished sooner rather than later. There are a couple small shops by my house and I haven't had the time to run by and check them out but the closer one just looks....well....skeevy. The guys inside look like they're on something and I'm afraid to see what's in their portfolios....

if it is an artist whose work you really like isn't it worth the wait?
i have a friend who lives in sd and loves chronic tattoo.

I agree - wait. I really wish I'd been a little more patient with my work.

The analogy I use now is "wait 3 months for the Harley or buy the cheap copy now?"

Yea but the ones you have to wait 3 months guarantee you a solid tattoo.

3 months is nothing!!! gives u a chance to save some more cash. Pretty much EVERY half decent Tattooist is booked up nowadays due to the popularity of tattooing at the moment.

I just waited a full year... going in for my second session on saturday!!

Agreed. 3 months is a drop in the bucket , and you've got to live that time, anyway. And with the plethora of really great tattoo artists in San Diego, it seems a shame to choose an 'artist' based on their lack of a wait-list. Last year I got tattooed by Dave Warshaw, who works at Avalon Tattoo 2 in San Diego (where Fip also works). Dave does - and is good at - a variety of styles. While he publicizes many of his more feminine, flowery pieces, he as a number of really dark, creepy ones that he doesn't advertise that much. I think I waited only about 2 months for him, and then had my second session to finish my tattoo done 2 weeks later. (ie, he's not booked up for a substantially long time). I think he's a really cool guy and a great artist. Good luck on your search!

Dave is who I'm *hopefully* meeting up with on the 1st, I only have Mondays off and Fip doesn't even work Mondays, so I was unable to even get a consultation with him. I'm just impatient and have the monetary ability now, not three months from now (I work in theater and I can have a job for 3 months and then nothing for 4 if that's how the season is), that's my main issue with wanting the process to be a bit quicker.

Yeah the scene-y toile reminds me a bit of my nonna's bedspread or something haha Will definitely chat with my artist about some shadows and see what she can come up with :) The pain isn't something I'm relishing, but it'll just be three hours out…
