Haven't seen it yet -- but based on the UFC's plan for an immediate rematch (which is unusual), I think they're gunning for Rua to become the new champ (perhaps more marketable and definitely a more exciting fighting style; that said, I have enjoyed watching the technician-style fighting in Machida's past fights [but that doesn't sell PPVs].

Have you seen the fight yet? Check it out and then we'll talk...you remember Matt Hamill vs Bisping? Terrible! Even ppl who know nothing about mma were saying "how come that guy won when all he did was get hit and kicked?

Shogun almost ruined the UFC plan for machida.

I didn't see the fight, but read about it, so can appreciate your bewilderment. The UFC gets stuck with whatever judges the California State Athletic Commission assigns (same with referees); so while the decision might not have been right, it wasn't the UFC's fault--same type of thing could happen in the upcoming Emelianenko fight in a different promotion.
I thought it interesting that many thought that Machida could've taken any of the 1st three rounds (but the last three clearly went to Rua). I've won wrestling matches before where I was winning in the beginning, but my opponent looked better than me at the end (I still won b/c I got my points in the beginning).

Ok, what the hell was the decision AGAINST Shogun tonight? He won the fight, hands down. Boycott UFC!

I know Faber has discussed for a long time a fight against BJ, but with his loss to Brown that seems unlikely in the near future. Problem with Florian cutting to 145 would be that it would require him to go down to the WEC, which is much less lucrative that the UFC.

I'd like to see Florian go down a weight class and take on Faber!!!! WHat does he think of that guy, J.R?

I would be surprised if Kimbo won TUF--unless they purposefully sought a weak talent pool to put in the house (which I doubt). That's not to say Kimbo won't get a UFC contract of some sort, I'd just be surprised if he won. Should be interesting, though . . . .

Oh yea you can tell just from the tuf commercials that its all about kimbo. I agree with kip I think kimbo can actually take it to brock but he needs to learn some much more. Look how much Boss Rutten taught kimbo in a short period of time so I think he can do it with some time and good training.

Hmm. . . I'll take the Griffin action. While Silva is technically a more sound fighter, Griffin's got heart and Silva is bored--look for a possible upset. (I'm going way out on a limb here, huh?!)
Penn will win.
Watch the WEC fight on August 9th -- Joseph Benavidez fights out of my gym; I think his fight will be right before the Miguel Torres fight.
