This is one of the reasons I'm glad that I got most of my body mods in Oregon. The regulations are so tight that you could donate blood the day after getting modded (in a licensed shop) if you felt so inclined.
Actually, there are a bunch of people in the US who have it, but it's not reported the same way because they got it from eating wild elk with wasting disease (a similar prion disease). Oh, the exciting things I learned from taking microbiology.
