I didn't start getting tattoos till I was 44 years old so I've spent the majority of my life un-inked. I never felt discriminated against by people with tattoos. I've found tattooed people fascinating since I was in my early twenties, back then the…

If they don't make a comment, why not just leave it at that? Discussion isn't going to make them accept or understand your choices. They didn't "get it" after the first tattoo, they won't after the fiftieth either.

Pictures please please. It is your choice and not a parents as to what you look like-inked or not inked. You are old enough to have kids and make your own decisions. They may not agree with your choice but they should respect that it is your choice.…

Pics please!! It sounds like a beautiful addition to your collection. Most of my family hates my tattoos except for my kids! Like Erin said, if you explain rationally that this is your body and your decision, then no one can tell you what to do wit…

Yes, in our family we tend not to discuss things. They'll just stare at my leg and not say anything. I'd rather get things out in the open, discuss it then be done. My parents are 70 this year and I'm sure they know I'm going to do whatever I want b…

No, not really. Everyone gets the same treatment from me, from the crack addicts to the trust fund princesses. Trust fund princesses are harder, after they have babies they have to get used to the fact that they're not the center of the universe any…

Can't wait to see pics! I'm moving down my leg at the end of January -- a bit more visible than it has been, so I'm a bit nervous, too.

2 new butterflies join the other 9

Yea! Got my Christmas ink!!

Wednesday I was able to get my ankle tweaked. I had planned to add a branch and a couple of butterflies around my ankle to tie it into my back. It ended up a lot bigger than I planned and I LOVE it! He was able to cover up a gnarly patch of spider veins as well (yea!). Photos are coming soon (my daughter has my camera today).

Now there's only one problem, my moms going to crap a brick. Her and my conservative Catholic sister....sigh.

Finally "came out" (re: tattoos) to my boss

It seems one of the hospitals in the area (not mine) is now banning visible tattoos. So I said, "I doubt my patients will be looking at my ankle, unless they're passed out on the floor" So I showed her my ankle, and everyone else in the room (they all know) said "Show her your back"

Well.....she yelled, I was expecting it so I wasn't surprised.

Now, just mom and dad to go. My sister knows I have them, just not how much I have.

Okay....ouch!!

My ankle is done.

WOOHOO!

I did have to make some compromises, the original font I chose wouldn't hold up. The color I wanted wouldn't either
so I ended up with a black ankle bracelet in one of the 5 fonts that I originally looked at, so that's not so bad. My ultimate goal was legibility and durability so I think I got what I asked for. (I asked for something that would be legible when I'm 80 and have cankles)

The actual tattooing didn't hurt any more than the other places that he's done. Get… Continue

Ankle work coming up soon

I'm getting my ankle bracelet done in 12 days (the one I've been planning since July or so). I'm excited but also a little scared. I have NO fat on my ankle at all, guess I'll feel what it's like to tattoo on bone. Hopefully I won't swell up too much, my daughters birthday party (parents and ultra-conservative religious sister attending) is 3 days later.
My trainer says I can blame it on her if I'm limping around.

More good news. I've been working with a trainer since end of Oct. and so far hav… Continue

Ike is going to be smacking us

We're about 150 miles to the side of Houston so we won't be getting the most of it. They say Galveston is already underwater. Kinda sad. I remember sitting on the seawall when I was a kid. My dad still has a photo. Pray for my husbands friends north of Houston. They told most of the people in high areas of Houston not to evacuate. My husband tried to talk them into coming up to stay with us but they're staying there.
I won't be on for a couple days.
My kids are going to my sisters and hubby (the… Continue

Hey Judy
Surfing doc from Brooklyn here. You can't surf in Brooklyn, but you can surf in Queens, and in a lot of places over the length of Long Island's South Shore. Gets a little chilly in the winter though.
My next piece has already been started and is a work in progress. Right now it's just a plain and simple star on my lower inner bicep, representing the wifey. First kid is on the way in September, so he/she will get one, and each kid thereafter. Then I'll do something to tie my "family piece" together, haven't figured it out yet. I guess I have a few years.
Sounds like you have a similar idea to represent your daughters. Very cool!
Cheers!

Thanks for the insight; I'm thinking it's always worth the discomfort to get something of good quality. I think I'm just paranoid because I'm on the bony, rather than fleshy, end of the anatomical scale. Just had some work done that hit that bony part right where shoulder/collar bone meets top of arm & that stung! Maybe just heavy-handed tattooist?

Oh good!

Thanks, Jill wasn't sure at first, but liked it (the yellow was done by Karen). I'm sticking w/Jill for my arm and Karen to put a few leaves/petals scattered on my back - next year...

I just saw your anklet pics - very nice, clean and sharp looking!! I know, STABLE and not impulsive !!

I realized the link might just go to his overall gallery (I was in particular looking at the woman's back w/all the butterflies - WOW).

Thanks, yes the lotus is new and I'm considering extending it next year (a big five-zero bday present) but it might just be TOO visible for me... sigh.

It is actually just an English issue (hardly anyone uses the term beloved -- so it does not come through correctly on the spell checker). Literally in Hebrew the text reads: "I belong to my beloved, and my beloved belongs to me." Trust the versions and not the spell checker. The NRSV and JPS both read "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine."
