She can travel to Horiyuki. How is she to work with? Bedside manner? General attitude? Will she work with your ideas, or does she prefer to be given free reign to do what she wants? If you are going to spend dozens of hours with someone getting tatt…
My daughter is thinking about a Japanese backpiece. She wants to work with a female artist. I have suggested Horiyuki (Jill Bonny), but wondered if any of you have any other suggestions. She is willing to travel.
What a great experience! I am intensely private about my ink for professional reasons (don't want to offend clients and colleagues, and don't want to draw excessive attention to myself in professional settings). But sometimes I wonder if I am just b…
Although I abandoned the idea for the full body suit (including full sleeves and legs), and stopped at thighs and half sleeves for "public image" reasons, like Tracy J., I still loooove the look of 3/4 sleeves. Every so often I think "hmmmmmm...mayb…
I'm in my mid 50's and got my first tattoo when I was 18. But I went over 25 years until my second, which was my full torso piece. Right after my first, I wanted another, but already felt that I had really, really, really done something taboo, and d…
Yes, breasts seem to be a stopping point for many women. Maybe it is the inevitable sagging that is a factor in that decision. For me, I wanted them covered with the rest of my torso, as part of the design. I don't care about the sagging issue. That…
When is it too much? I think it varies with the individual, their lifestyle, etc.
But I also think when you start getting tattooed, some of us cross a weird perceptual threshold. What used to seem too much, now seems reasonable. And if you go to ta…
50-something "apparently normal," recovering soccer mom/accomplished professional, who discovered tattooing in middle age, becoming addicted. I am absolutely passionate about tattooing, and love to talk about it. I feel that modifying the body is an incredibly powerful act, and not one to be entered into lightly. At the same time, I am intensely private about about my ink.

Thank you :) Once i decided to go large with the piece I knew I didn't want something straight on....Scott did a phenominal job working through the different planes and creating such a dynamic piece.
It's nice to hear you feel the same way about elderly people. It drives me crazy hearing people talk badly about them, like they don't realize we will all be old one day. Older people know more, even if they've forgotten, and they deserve more respect in my book than the entitled teenager who's shown nothing but disrespect to everyone.
Hey thanks for getting back to me and your compliments! I was thinking the same thing about a thigh tattoo that I would be able to cover it with cargo shorts when I wanted to. So do you think 2 inches above the knee would be safe to hide it in those kinds of shorts or most knee length skirts?
It sounds like I'm more ok with showing my ink than you are but at the same time only when I want to. It's definitely important to me to be able to hide them.
Hey Soraya, I'm scheduled to get my thigh tattooed, I'm planning on most of it being covered...how have people reacted to your upper thigh tattoos? Are they visible in public ever? Thanks!
Well I would not want you to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. Maybe after being here a while you will feel more comfortable and maybe post something. As you know we are all tattooed here! Glad you are here either way!
Well I understand your hesitation. Hopefully after being with us for a while you'll feel like maybe you can come out of your shell a little. I'm certainly glad that tattoos and other body mods are so much more accepted now. Now we're ALL freaks LOL!! We're glad to have you here, photos or not :)
Just wanted to say hello and welcome to the site! I really enjoyed your first post and look forward to seeing some pictures if you are going to post any!
Hi, Soraya! I enjoyed your post a lot. Do you have any photos you could upload? (Don't worry, you certainly won't be judged HERE!! Feel free to share!)
Yeah the scene-y toile reminds me a bit of my nonna's bedspread or something haha
Will definitely chat with my artist about some shadows and see what she can come up with :)
The pain isn't something I'm relishing, but it'll just be three hours out…
