Thanks for the add. My wife, Michelle is also on a university staff and just began a doctoral program in educational leadership. She just joined, but has little time to post since she just started coursework.
i can't rightfully join "tattooed academics" but i will say this: your interview and your resume are what should be the grounds to hire you. your tattoos are personal - just like your sexual preference, medical history, favorite girl scout cookie and other assorted incidentals.
i would never feel inclined to disclose my body art in a job interview in that, for the most part, it could become an unnecessary disadvantage in a presumably closed-minded culture.
it's easy for an employer to NOT hire you because of ink - it's a huge HR issue if they fire you because of it.
That is rather funny. I actually did a presentation at a national conference a few years ago on the topic of body art and youth. Our message was well recieved (acceptance and sound decion making) until I was "outed". Suddenly I lost all credibility.
What U. are you working at? Are you in Pensecola? I have friends working there. I was in Mississippi for about 5 years so many of my students and colleagues migrated that direction.
I am a program coordinator within the student affairs department at a higher education institution. The students are usually pretty facsinated by my body art, but the faculty and administrators... eh, not so much.
